On 14 Oct Mrs Kate Mentink, Deputy Mayor and Director of the Foreign Citizens and Tourism Department at Calvia Town Hall, welcomed the students at EOI Calvià to the 2009-2010 academic year. Among other things, she talked about what students of English can do to improve their language skills in the area. We would like to thank her for having given such an interesting talk. Students were very engaged and asked many interesting questions on issues like foreign residents, tourism, and the past terrorist attack that took place in Palma Nova on 30 July. Here you will find some quotations from the talk: "English is one of the most valuable tools that you will have" "The most valuable thing a society has is people. A society won’t function if people can’t communicate." "When people speak a language, they can share their ideas and knowledge and pass them on to other speakers of that language" And talking about the importance of learning a language by using it, she said "If you don’t use it, you lose it"
